This is Russell’s first year with Mercedes and although the team pace isn’t what it was in the past, Russell has been a standout. He has been outperforming Lewis Hamilton, his 7-time World Champion teammate.  At time of writing,  he has finished in the points in every race (barring one retirement), placing no lower than 5th and achieving three 3rd place podiums. He is currently  5th in the drivers’ standings.
