2008 Dan Wheldon Signed Chip Ganassi Racing Chicago Design IndyCar Helmet
Fantastic original Bell helmet painted by JLF designs for Dan Wheldon for the IndyCar 2008 season. This one-off design, with a special mural of King Richard The Lionheart on the back, has a special “battle black” colour scheme. The helmet design was used at the Chicago race and can also be seen being used in pre-season testing at Miami Homestead. This is one of only two helmets that was painted in this design.
In 2005, Wheldon became the first British driver to win the Indy 500 in 39 years. Graham Hill and Jim Clark had won it back-to-back in 1966 and 1965. At the 100th anniversary of the Indianapolis 500 in 2011 Wheldon picked up his second victory of the season before tragically losing his life later that year in an accident at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. He was also the 2005 IndyCar Series Champion and won the 2006 Rolex 24 hours of Daytona for Chip Ganassi Racing.
Wheldon kept his race helmet and this brand new back-up helmet fitted with a race used visor was hand signed and presented to the designer of the helmet. This version, now 13 years old, still looks state-of-the-art and is in near mint condition. His items are rarely available on the collectables market so don’t miss out on this great opportunity to own a piece of Dan Wheldon IndyCar history.
This helmet comes with a Certificate of Authenticity.
