1985/86 Joe Gaerte World of Outlaws Sprintcar Helmet
Helmet worn by World of Outlaws legendary Sprint car driver, team owner and engine builder Joe Gaerte. It was used by Gaerte early in his career and probably used around the Midwest (Illinois, Indiana) tracks during the 1985/86 seasons. After retiring from active racing Gaerte then went on to own his own World of Outlaws team but is recognised more for his engine building skills
The Helmet was painted by renowned Indianapolis autosport artist Ron Burton. Burton often exchanged used race helmets from drivers for some of his artwork to add to his collection. This helmet comes from that collection.
The mainly metallic red paintwork has a dividing airbrushed purple, red and yellow scalloped band running around the helmet which has ‘Jose’ written in the yellow band at the back. The top has multi-colored airbrushed grid design and the ‘Gaerte’ name at the top front in silver with black shadowing. The bottom half has lighting pink pinstripes from the middle running round the back. It still has its USAC tech sticker still attached.
