1982 Gilles Villeneuve Signed Ferrari Belgium Grand Prix F1 Zolder Event Program With JSA Authentication
Original race program from the 1982 Belgium Grand Prix held at Zolder on May 9th, 1982. The race is remembered to this day for the tragic passing of Canadian driver Gilles Villeneuve.
Villeneuve was killed in an accident during the final qualifying session. At the time of the crash, his teammate Didier Pironi had set a time 0.1s faster than Villeneuve for sixth place. Contemporary and more recent writers say that he was attempting to improve his time on his final lap. Some suggest that he was specifically aiming to beat Pironi due to bitterness at being passed by him two weeks earlier in the closing stages of the San Marino Grand Prix, when Villeneuve believed Pironi had been ordered to remain behind him. Villeneuve’s biographer Gerald Donaldson quotes Ferrari race engineer Mauro Forghieri as saying that the Canadian, although pressing on in his usual fashion, was returning to the pits on his last set of qualifying tires when the accident occurred.
The program was signed on page 67 by Villeneuve, as well as by his then team mate Didier Pironi, sometime during that very same race weekend. Andrea De Cesaris (pg. 63) and Niki Lauda (pg. 47) had also signed the program.
The program comes with a Letter of Authenticity from JSA Authentication verifying the authenticity of the autographs. It also comes with a Certificate Of Authenticity from Hall Of Fame Collection.
