1979 Paul Newman Championship Winning Race Used Bob Sharp Racing SCCA Suit
Paul Newman’s personally-owned and worn bright red Simpson racing suit from 1979. The name patch on the chest is embroidered with “P.L. Newman” in white. Other sewn-on patches on the suit include Bob Sharp Racing/Datsun, Canon, Kendall, Budweiser, and Goodyear. The suit was conclusively photo-matched to images of Newman captured by motor sport photographer Dan Boyd, and also comes with a laminated letter of provenance from a previous owner.
Newman became interested in auto racing while training under Bob Sharp at the Watkins Glen Racing School for the 1969 filming of the movie “Winning”, in which he plays a driver with dreams of winning the Indianapolis 500. Thus began a passion he held for the rest of his life, frequently competing in SCCA events, the 1979 24 Hours of Le Mans, and in the North American Can-Am series.
With so few original owned Paul Newman suits in existence, you don’t want to miss out on this one of a kind item today.
The suit comes with a HOFC Certificate of Authenticity.
