1971 Steve McQueen Original Le Mans Movie Worn Gulf Porsche Jacket
This ultra rare jacket was worn by the legendary Steve McQueen in the movie Le Mans. The 1971 film is arguably the greatest racing movie of all time. This Gulf badged rain jacket was worn during various parts of the movie and McQueen even took to wearing it between scenes while on set.
A wonderful piece of racing nostalgia and movie history, capturing the moment when the racing world and film world succeeded in making an epic racing movie. The film is famous for it’s very realistic racing scenes from one of the most iconic times in Le Mans racing history. Much of racing footage for the film was shot during the actual 1970 Le Mans race were McQueen’s Solar Productions film company entered a Porsche 908/2 (which McQueen had previously driven to a 2nd place finish in the 12h of Sebring) in the race fitted with camera equipment. Notably the car managed to finish 2nd in the P3.0 class despite being laden with cameras.
Hollywood memorabilia is often valued very high and McQueen’s famous race suit from this move sold for close to 1 million dollars. You can own something that could be worn still for a fraction of that price.
The jacket is accompanied by a letter of provenance from the film’s costume supervisor as well as a Hall of Fame Collection Certificate of Authenticity.
